Discover Chabad

Chabad, the largest and fastest-growing Jewish organization, considered to be the most dynamic force in Jewish life today, follows a profound philosophy which displays how ancient Jewish rituals are actually relevant nowadays more than ever and how they imbue deep meaning into our everyday lives.

The Visionary Behind It All

The Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, motivated by his profound love for every Jew and spurred by his boundless optimism and self-sacrifice, set into motion a dazzling array of programs, services and institutions to serve every Jew.

Today, over 4,500 full-time emissary families direct more than 3,500 institutions (and a workforce that numbers in the tens of thousands) dedicated to the welfare of the Jewish people worldwide.

Chabad SU

You’re about to leave home for four years. Four years crucial to your development as an adult. Your family stays behind. You’re going all alone. You will meet thousands of new people. You will make new friends and develop new relationships. You may, at times, feel lonely in the vast and impersonal world of higher education.

At Chabad SU, you’ll discover your Jewish family in college. You’ll build friendships that will last a lifetime. You’ll enjoy delicious, home cooked meals every Friday night. Chabad SU will fill some of that void created by leaving home and family behind. When you miss your family, we’re here to help!

Programming Director

I grew up in Forest Hills, NY. My role model is my Zaidy, who survived the camps, yet had no complaints to G-d. He would always say "G-d was kind to me wherever I ended up". He came to America with nothing, but always looked forward and remained positive.

I love working with students, because they have an incredibly contagious energy.

Rabbi & Chani Rapoport

Executive Directors

Rabbi & Mrs Yaakov and Chani Rapoport established Chabad Lubavitch of Central New York, including the Chabad House at Syracuse University, in 1981. While they now focus their energy on the Syracuse community & grad students, they continue to oversee Chabad Houses at five campuses in the CNY area - SUNY Oswego, SUNY Cortland, Hamilton College, Colgate University and SU.
